The Berlin Institute of Critical Theory (InkriT) invites you to its XXV International Conference from May 18-21, 2023 at ver.di-Bildungs- und Begegnungszentrum Clara Sahlberg in Berlin-Wannsee.
The conference will be held in cooperation with the Institute for Critical Social Analysis at the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung and partly funded by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung).
The general theme of the conference is:
New World Dis/Order
War and its logic, which has taken on a life of its own, is setting the course of history. Just as the world’s epicenter shifts from West-North to East-South, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine moved Europe from the backwaters of a new Cold War — between a rising world power and one in decline? — center stage in a new hot war between post-Soviet nation-states. Between crumbling alliances of old and new ones yet unformed, the current state of conflict and geopolitical disruption signals Zeitenwende — a historic turning point: Europe’s sovereignty in foreign policy is dissipating, the will to reconcile conflicting interests is consumed in flames, the German vow born of ashes — >Nie wieder< (never again) — is going up in smoke. The global resources and cooperations needed to stem our most existential threats are being consumed in other battles.
>What Is to Be Done?< presents as nothing less than a question of human survival: As the major media are stirring up a bellicism that has all but turned diplomacy and critical reason into synonyms for betrayal, isn’t it high time to counter the frenzy with a defiant ^we^^: an alliance of social counterforces aiming to upend the >Zeitenwende< and - while respecting the right of defense of the attacked Ukraine - turn it in a progressive direction towards the true tasks of humanity?
Projected are lectures and contributions by Anna Saggioro Garcia (Rio de Janeiro), Wolfgang Fritz Haug (Esslingen), Shir Hever (Heidelberg), John Neelsen (Tübingen), Wolfgang Streeck (Köln), Peter Wahl (Berlin) and others.
